KOROVOU OUTREACH

All mothers leave the hospital breastfeeding.  Once they get home many will stop.  We are trying to provide more education and support to mothers to exclusively breastfeed for six months. 








 I assisted with 10 Jadelle insertions and 3 removals.  Jadelle is the top family planning option for mothers in Fiji!

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.....

 Joe gave a talk today to the Central Division Primary Care Physicians on "Prevention is Better Than Cure".  This conference was on Diabetes.  He used Betty's slide.....The Horses are out of the Barn as part of his presentation.  Right now he is teaching medical students at the diabetic hub in Suva.  Diabetes continues to be a challenge here.

IMMUNIZATION WEEK

FIJI has a great Immunization rate in the South Pacific of almost 95%.   This week they launched World Immunization week with a target toward Hepatitis B and liver cancer.  Representatives from the Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, UNICEF,  Aussie Aid were all here!!!

PASSOVER IN FIJI

Happy Passover....we celebrated Seder with Tricia, Eric, Josh, Kendall, Sofia, Jake and Brook.  Joe made kugel and I made latkes!  Good people, good food, good celebration.

MANGO BAY......

A fun day at the beach.....with the "seasonings"......!!!


JOE'S GARDEN.....

 Joe has planted lettuce, beets, bok choy, peppers, eggplant.....tomatoes to come......




He planted mint for Ky Derby mint juleps, basil, rosemary, coriander, chives.... We have banana trees and cassava plants already growing.....hope to have passion fruit and papaya trees growing soon......

We are planting sun flowers, hibiscus bushes, zinnias and birds of paradise, salvia etc.

Marley L sent me seeds for a Moringa tree which is called a Miracle Tree because it is so rich in nutrients.  We are going to make it a Peace Corps project in the villages and teaching about nutrition.  We think this may be something similar that grows here??????  Thanks Marley.......
