Joe and I spent the weekend as Camp participants, facilitators and counselors at the first Diabetic Youth Camp in Fiji sponsored by the Diabetic Hub and Diabetes Fiji. Ages were from 6-29 and everyone had Type 1 diabetes. It was a great camp. A nutritionist, counselors, doctors, nurses, physical therapists all participated with 8 stations over 2 days. We learned about diet, insulin, physical activity, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, complications, emotional issues, etc. Families came, friends came. In Fiji, there is a lot of discrimination in the workplace and socially for Type 1 diabetics. Very little support and public education. Test strips, needles, syringes cost a lot of money for most also. Joe gave a motivational talk for closing.
Dr. Lisi...wonderful doctor.....
I slept on a bottom bunk!!!
