Sangam women in reproductive health workshop

Twenty five women members of the Mathaar Sangam from Viti Levu attended for a one-day workshop at Sangam Village, Lovu, outside Lautoka, on Saturday.
The workshop on ‘Empowerment of Women as Advocates in Reproductive Health’ was facilitated by the Viseisei Sai Health Centre and funded by the European Union.
Mathaar Sangam national president, Walliamma Swami, said it was the first time for the Sangam organisation to have a workshop on such an important issue.
“The participants were challenged to be empowered women as advocates in reproductive health, as for the first time we organised this workshop since our members do not come out to be taught,” Mrs Swami said.
“Those present will go back to their respective districts to help their community to deal with common issues.”
She said to advocate on common issues that surround us would create more understanding for the public to understand.
The medical director at the centre, Dr Swaran Naidu, said those in the workshop should be able to disseminate knowledge to those in their communities.
